Swatch x Guggenheim Releases Watches Inspired by Pollock, Degas, Monet, and Klee

Swiss watch firm Swatch is the newest model to companion with a significant museum on a product assortment. On Thursday, it introduced the Swatch x Guggenheim Assortment, that includes watches that translate items from the collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice. The artists featured embody Edgar Degas, Paul Klee, Claude Monet and Jackson Pollock.

The items are the newest in Swatch’s bigger Artwork Journey collection, which launched in 2023. As a part of the collection, the corporate has partnered with the Museum of Trendy Artwork in New York, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Jean-Michel Basquiat property, the Rene Magritte property, and others. Swatch has additionally partnered with the Guggenheim because the Nineteen Nineties.

“This collaboration was impressed by a long-standing shared perception between Swatch and the Guggenheim: artwork must be accessible, lived with, and skilled past museum partitions,” Swatch’s CEO Vivian Stauffer told WWD by way of e-mail. “By making iconic artworks wearable and playful, Swatch removes the gap that may generally exist between folks and cultural establishments.”

The works referenced within the assortment launched Thursday are Degas’s Dancers in Inexperienced and Yellow (1903), Monet’s The Palazzo Ducale, Seen from San Giorgio Maggiore (1908), Klee’s The Bavarian Don Giovanni (1919), and Pollock’s Alchemy (1947).

“The artworks had been chosen in shut dialogue with the curatorial groups in New York and Venice,” Stauffer stated. “Each bit was chosen for its emotional influence, its significance inside the Guggenheim collections, and its capability to translate meaningfully into the intimate format of a watch.”
