ROME, Jan 1 (Reuters) – Italy’s overseas ministry stated on Thursday america had sharply lowered proposed duties on a number of Italian pasta makers following a reassessment of their U.S. actions.

In October, america stated that 13 Italian pasta corporations would face an additional 92% responsibility – on high of the common 15% fee on most EU imports – from January 2026, accusing two producers particularly, La Molisana and Garofalo, of promoting pasta at unfairly low costs.

Nonetheless, after a assessment, the U.S. Division of Commerce lower the tariff for La Molisana to 2.26%, whereas Garofalo’s fee was set at 13.98%, the Italian overseas ministry stated in an announcement.

The remaining 11 producers, which weren’t individually examined within the assessment, face a tariff of 9.09%.

“The recalculation of the duties is an indication that U.S. authorities recognise our corporations’ constructive willingness to cooperate,” the overseas ministry stated.

It added that the complete conclusions of the U.S. assessment could be launched on March 11, including that the ministry would proceed to supply assist to the businesses affected within the coming weeks.

The threatened pasta tariffs had been a humiliation to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who had hoped that her shut ties with U.S. President Donald Trump would protect Italian corporations from any extra tariffs.

Italy’s complete pasta exports had been value over 4 billion euros ($4.7 billion) in 2024, in accordance with information from nationwide statistics company ISTAT. The U.S. market was value nearly $800 million to Italian companies.
