Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) defended President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez.
In March 2024, Hernandez was convicted on a drug trafficking and weapons cost, conspiring to import cocaine into the U.S. He was sentenced to 45 years in jail.
Hernandez served as president of Honduras from 2014 to 2022.
Showing Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” host Dana Bash requested whether or not Mullin thought if it was a “good thought” for Trump to be “threatening Venezuela and [Venezuelan President Nicolás] Maduro” whereas concurrently vowing to pardon Hernandez who “deliberately poisoned People with medicine.”
“I wasn’t concerned within the conversations that [Trump] had with the president of Honduras at the moment,” the Oklahoma senator responded. “I consider there’s in all probability a great religion that’s being stretched forth right here.”
Mullin pointed to Trump’s Truth Social post on Friday, through which he introduced his determination to pardon Hernandez, telling his 11-million-plus followers that “in line with many individuals that I significantly respect,” the ex-president was “handled very harshly and unfairly.”

“There was a direct message [in the post],” Mullin advised Bash. “I assure you the president’s international affairs method is one that’s being very efficient world wide.”
He then took a swipe at former President Joe Biden, claiming that Trump’s worldwide relations method is “rather a lot higher than the Biden administration.”
“That’s why world leaders are coming in each single day, wanting to go to with [Trump],” Mullin mentioned. “That’s why the president is ready to cease eight international wars, and hopefully 9, if we will hopefully negotiate a deal between Ukraine and Russia.”
Claiming that every one “the world leaders respect [Trump],” he continued, “What the president is doing is all the time calculated.”
Mullin mentioned he hasn’t had “a direct dialog with the president about” it but, earlier than including, “However I do belief his pure response and his method to international affairs as a result of we will see it has been very, very efficient.”
