The Conservatives are calling for Lucy Powell to resign after the Labour MP’s trade with a commentator about grooming gangs.
The remark was made by Ms Powell, the chief of the Home of Commons, after Conservative political commentator Tim Montgomerie began to ask a query on BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions.
“I do not know if you happen to noticed the documentary on Channel 4 about rape gangs,” he began, in relation to the current programme Groomed: A Nationwide Scandal, which centred round 5 women who have been sexually abused by rape gangs.
Ms Powell, who’s MP for Manchester Central, responded: “Oh, we need to blow that little trumpet now, can we? Yeah, OK, let’s get that canine whistle out.”

Ousted Reform MP Rupert Lowe, now an impartial, shared a letter he wrote to Ms Powell demanding she apologise, calling her feedback “deeply, deeply offensive”.
