Certainly, it has been a troublesome yr for the Louvre, with employees repeatedly warning of dangerous circumstances on the museum and threatening to strike. In January, amid employees unrest, a memo written by director Laurence des Automobiles leaked to the press. In it, des Automobiles warned of water leaks, overcrowding,  a “proliferation of injury in museum areas.” Des Automobiles went on to name for a serious overhaul of the museum, which is run by the state. Every week later, President Emmanuel Macron introduced an in depth renovation plan, estimated to value  €700–800 million. However with work on that to not be accomplished till 2031, it did little to alleviate employees discontent. In June, the museum closed when employees launched a wildcat strike.

In October, after the notorious housebreaking, the employees—together with most of the people—was livid within the aftermath, even booing des Automobiles in a employees assembly days after. An official report then discovered that the museum’s safety techniques have been outdated and insufficient, whereas union officers complained about lower hours and employees reductions, which they felt hindered safety.

As if that wasn’t sufficient, the museum was pressured to shut its southern Sully wing in late November after structural weaknesses have been present in among the wings. A water leak round this time additionally broken a whole lot of books within the museum’s Egyptian antiquities division library.

The Louvre has but to touch upon the strike, or union officers’ accusations.
